Kehren die Sponsoren der FIFA den Rücken? Im Zuge des Korruptionsskandals um den Fußball-Weltverband und die Festnahmen von sieben hochrangigen Funktionären haben sich jetzt auch große Partner der FIFA zu Wort gemeldet - und drohen mit Konsequenzen, sofern Sepp Blatter und Co. keinen grundlegenden Wandel einleiten.
Allen voran Visa, das schon einmal seine Besorgnis um den Verband und die Umstände der WM-Vergaben an Russland (2018) und Katar (2022) verdeutlichte, erhöht den Druck. Das Statement, mit dem das Kreditkartenunternehmen an die Öffentlichkeit getreten ist liest sich wie eine Ausstiegsdrohung: "Unsere Enttäuschung und Sorge um die FIFA im Lichte der jüngsten Entwicklungen ist groß. Als Sponsor erwarten wir, dass die FIFA schnelle und sofortige Maßnahmen ergreift, um die Probleme innerhalb der Organisation anzugehen." Oberste Priorität habe dabei der Wiederaufbau einer Kultur mit starken ethischen Grundsätzen, um das Vertrauen der Fußballwelt zurück zu erlangen. Und weiter: Sollte es dem Verband nicht gelingen, wieder im Sinne des fairen Sports zu handeln, würde Visa seine Sponsorentätigkeit überdenken.

Allerdings erwartet der Herzogenauracher Konzern auch von seinen Partnern "höchste Standards, was ethisches Verhalten und Compliance" angeht. "Nach den heutigen Neuigkeiten bestärken wir deshalb die FIFA darin, auch weiterhin transparente Compliance-Standards zu setzen und diese konsequent anzuwenden."

Doch auch wenn sich die Sponsoren in diesen Tagen erwartet kritisch zu den Entwicklungen rund um den Fußball-Weltverband äußern - ob sie tatsächlich vor einer schnellen Aufkündigung der geschäftlichen Beziehungen zur FIFA stehen, darf angesichts der ungebrochen großen Bedeutung eines Sponsorings rund um die Fußball-WM bezweifelt werden. tt
